Bush Camping on the Yorke Peninsula

Numerous approved bush camping sites exist throughout the Yorke Peninsula and are situated at some of the most beautiful scenic coastal areas, which are accessible by conventional vehicle. Many sites are Free Campsites with others requiring a Fee.

Permits are required for all Bush Camping Sites and the following fees are payable (where applicable).

Bush Camping Locations

1. The Gap Camping Area

FREE Camping- Permit Required

Located on the north west coast of the peninsula, 15 km north of Balgowan. Access via Balgowan. Beach launch. BYO water and firewood. Gas/fuel stoves preferred. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H7.

 

2. The Bamboos Camping Area

FREE camping - Permit Required

Located on the north west coast of the peninsula, 12 km north of Balgowan. Access via Balgowan. Beach launch. BYO water and firewood. Gas/fuel stoves preferred. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H7.

 

3. Tiparra Rocks Camping Area

FREE Camping - Permit Required

Located on the north west coast of the Yorke Peninsula, 8 km north of Balgowan. Access via Balgowan. Beach launch. BYO water and firewood. Gas/fuel stoves preferred. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H7.

 

4. Wauraltee Beach Camping Area

FREE camping - Permit Required

Situated on the west coast of the Peninsula, 17 km south of Port Victoria on Wauraltee Beach Road. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula h11.

 

5. Barkers Rocks Camping Area

FREE Camping - Permit Required

Situated on the west coast of the Peninsula, 12 km north west of Minlaton, on Barkers Rocks Road. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H12.

 

6. Burners Beach Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Situated on the north coast of the foot on Point Souttar Road, 22 km north west of Warooka. Permit required. Toilet facilities. Natural boat ramp. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula E14.

 

7. Gravel Bay Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the west coast of the foot on Berry Bay Road, 18km west of Corny Point. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula C15.

 

8. Swincers Rocks Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the west coast of the foot on Wurlie Road, 41 km west of Warooka. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula B15.

 

9. Gleesons Landing Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the west coast of the foot, 19km south west of Corny Point. Access off Corny Point – Marion Bay Road. Permit required. Toilet facilities. 4WD beach boat ramp. BYO water and firewood. Water pump available for bathing and washing – not fit for drinking. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula B16.

 

10. Foul Bay Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 39km south west of Warooka. Access via Happy Valley Road. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula E18.

 

11. Sturt Bay Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 13km south of Warooka. Access via Sturt Bay Road. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula G17.

 

12. Mozzie Flat Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 23km south of Warooka and 17km south of Yorketown. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H17.

 

13. Kemp Bay Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 13km south of Yorketown, on South Coast Road. Permit required. Popular fishing spot. BYO water and firewood. Map Ref: RAA Yorke Peninsula H17.

 

14. Troubridge Hill Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast of the Peninsula, 19km south of Yorketown and 15km south west of Edithburgh, on South Coast Road. Camping permitted on coastal reserve stretching from Diamond Lake Road along South Coast Road, continuing along Troubridge Point Drive. Permit required. Popular fishing spot. BYO water and firewood. 15. Goldsmith’s Beach Camping Area

Fee Payable - Permit Required

Located on the south coast the Peninsula, 18km south east of Yorketown and 8km south west of Edithburgh. Access off South Coast Road from Edithburgh. Camping permitted on coastal reserve stretching from Wattle Bay Road along South Coast Road, continuing along Troubridge Point Drive. Popular fishing spot. Permit required. BYO water and firewood. Many camp sites on the Yorke Peninsula require camping permits. These permits can be obtained from :

Camping at Hillock's Drive Bush Camp

Bush camping is available on private land at Hillock’s Drive (Butler’s Beach) along the spectacular southern coast of Yorke Peninsula. Flora and fauna are protected and there is strictly no hunting, motor bike riding or destruction of any vegetation. Camping permits are available from the homestead shop, along with firewood, drinking water, bait, ice and basic supplies. Toilets and hot showers are situated near the entry gate. Speak with owners about safest beaches for fishing, snorkelling and swimming. Pets are welcome but must be kept under strict control at all times.

Parking for Motorhomes

Overnight parking for motor homes is available at Arthurton, Maitland and Warooka. Please contact the local Progress Associations for further information.

Camping in Innes National Park

Camping in Innes National Park requires a permit. This permit can be purchased at the Information Centre at Stenhouse Bay or the self registration box at the entry to the Park. Contact the Park on 8854 3200 for further information.
